Late at night, the studio is quiet except for the soft hum of the pottery wheel and the warm glow of the desk lamp.
I hold a lump of soft, high-quality white clay in my hands, as if cradling a dream that hasn’t woken up yet. Slowly, it transforms under my fingers into a delicate mug — thin-walled like an eggshell, yet strong enough to hold warmth for many years.
Then comes the most healing part.
I sit at my workbench, the light falling gently on the clay like a layer of soft gold. Using the finest strips of clay, I begin building tiny book walls at the bottom of the mug — one small book spine after another, stacked layer by layer, creating a home for stories. Next, a little fox with round glasses takes shape. It lies on the desk, its fluffy tail curled gently, as if smiling at a wonderful book it just read. Beside it, I sculpt a big cozy armchair and a chubby little bear curled up inside, eyes half-closed, with two tiny slippers kicked off beside its feet…
With every piece of clay I press down, I whisper softly in my heart:“Here, you don’t have to try so hard. You can just be gently cared for.”
Staircases, bay windows, warm lamps, moonlight… I piece the entire miniature world together bit by bit. When I finally slide the mug into the kiln, the 1260°C fire will protect everything I’ve made, so these little lives can safely accompany people for a long time.12 to 15 days later, when I open the kiln door and see the completed tiny world resting quietly at the bottom, a gentle wave of happiness always fills my heart.
